[kwlug-disc] Linux Mint site hacked

By that argument, and it's a fair argument ... why not instead fold into, or become, the Cinnamon team within Debian, and/or any other parts of the Debian team they're interested in, for that matter? e.g. Disto bits and pieces. Take a whack of fiddly bits off their plates.

At least one part of the answer to that, though, is there must have been reasons for them not doing so in the first place. Which still apply?

OTOH, presumably Mint is (was? by necessity?) more than just Cinnamon, so not sure Mint can be so encapsulated. IIRC Mint started out as cool green KDE. Feels like KDE has been much less important to them for some while. Maybe, now, focusing on Cinnamon only is not unreasonable? If only from their own exhaustion standpoint.

It takes a whack of people in the community, and resources, to do a distro - beyond a limited hobbyist environment. Mint has grown in popularity such that it could no longer be termed 'hobbyist', and so should take a step back to examine whether there is a point to staying independent, and they have the infrastructure manpower and resources to be able to do so?
