While I defer Kodi questions to our in-house expert Charles, I can say from
experience that Plex just isn't worth the effort.  Avoid that.

You might want to look into running libreELEC on a Raspberry Pi if you're
the adventurous sort.  I ran it a few years ago on a small TV but I hear
that it's still a good choice.

As for myself I have all my media on a Synology NAS and the TVs in the
house pick up the movies from there.  The interface is so-so but it works.
I'd prefer better control over language and subtitles, though.

Currently I'm in the process of building a RetroPi for the main TV. I'm
looking for some sort of Kodi add-on that works with the RetroPi.  I'll
report in to the group if I make any headway on that.
