I run my own email server along with the other services I need (on Mark Steffen’s colocation infrastructure in Kitchener, incidentally).

I am not sure that it’s so much that nobody else has the same requirements as you, but rather that if someone has concerns about data hosting location then they probably have other concerns as well and end up rolling their own.

As others have mentioned it’s not all that straightforward. If you want to have the bells and whistles such as webmail, server-side searching/virus scanning or easy to use/configure spam filtering… well it becomes a part time job unto its own. That’s exactly why I don’t have webmail, virus scanning or easy to configure/manage spam filtering. I rely on a few RBLs, some nice MTA-side configuration to weed out the obvious attempts and MUA-side spam filtering for what does get through. I also rely on user education, which is pretty much a no-go for all but the smallest of user bases.
