[kwlug-disc] Cell phone providers

I do this with voip.ms as well, but I also relay it from my DID to my cell. So on a DID text I get a cell txt and an e-mail notification. (I don't do data on my cell.)

I do the $3/month txt messaging package on my Rogers Pay As You Go - 30 out, unlimited in. (Since I do the $100/yr card, the unfortunately necessary txt message addon doesn't end up costing me anything.)

This has had the wonderful benefit of letting me relay incoming e-mail I consider important to the cell's e-mail id <phone #>@pcs.rogers.com IIRC. I don't read e-mail there, but the txt message (reply read to read) that comes in alerts me that e-mail came in, and from whom. I don't know that there's an @pcs.voip.ms equivalent, haven't looked.

One thing to know about voip.ms relay though ... a relayed txt comes through as coming from your DID. If the message content doesn't identify the sender, the only way you'll know whom it was actually from is to check the e-mail. (For the moment, all voip.ms txt'ing is free. When it isn't, apparently it will be 1 cent per message.)

But I have used voip.ms texting service too, it converts the text to an email so
not as convenient.. You do have a phone number associated with a data only plan.
I never give it out and don’t answer the phone if the tbaytel number rings as
that costs about .40/minute if you used the phone
