I could get an updated GNOME.

Specific tools? No. I just use gnome-shell, gnome-terminal, and all the
regular command-line stuff (mutt, ssh, screen, and git). But using Fedora
daily kind of gives you an idea of what's coming down the road for Red Hat.
I haven't run RHEL7 yet, but I'm already very familiar and comfortable with
systemd, for example.
