Establish a new account and just put an auto-forward on the yahoo account.

Although the yahoo ecosystem is (was?) slightly richer than google's,
e.g. better calendar iirc, definitely better groups. But, you still
mostly connect to those services via web/direct, not via TB.

And you can associate your yahoo address with your gmail one, including
being able to send out as yahoo from gmail (via TB, even).

I've seen a number of people go through this, and it's more painless and
more seamless than one reasonably expects.

With the sending as you can solve the immediate problem.

With the auto-forward it won't be many months before you forget it's
even there. And, in the end, no need to even kill it - just leave the
old account there forever.

[I'm assuming there's a reasonably easy migration path for contacts, and
given TB, you may not even need to change calendar, although that should
be sufficiently easy to migrate, too.]

I get this is a PITA, but there's a certain advantage to provider
independence.
