True, but most of the time, even if I know the person under the wrong
name, if he's a friend, I'd want to contact him using the information
he gave me.  It's the identity I know him as, not some other abstract
identity.

If I've met a person as Mr. Smith, and know I can contact him at
mrsmith at gmail.com, and received his GPG fingerprint in person, then I
can vouch that others can also contact Mr. Smith at mrsmith at gmail.com
and reach the same person I've met.

If Mr. Smith also talks to people as Miss Violet, I don't really care.
And if the government knows him as Mr. Laden, I wouldn't know that either.

My signature is to reinforce the Mr. Smith identity, not to prove there
are no others.
