[kwlug-disc] Xsane permissions in Ubuntu

I've started to test the dozens of scanners in the shop under Linux and run
into a couple of bumps. I'm currently testing a CanoScan N340P.

I cannot seem to access the scanner through my regular user account. I added
myself to both the saned and scanner groups and still no luck. I can access
the scanner if I sudo xsane (but this is dangerous, not to mention not easy
for inexperienced Linux users)

The second problem is that the scanner only seems to want to let me scan in
gray. If I try switching to colour (it initially spit out errors) it seems
to lock xsane up.

I'm more interested in solving the first problem since this might just be an
anomaly with this scanner.

Thanks,

Charles
