Last year, I carelessly used the term "google search" in conversation, and I triggered somebody in the group I was talking to. That person was a musician who can no longer earn money by selling albums, since anyone can type his name into an AI music synthesizer and get an album that sounds like his work.

Since I haven't used Google search in years, I just switched immediately to saying "web search", which is also shorter.

Recently, there was a joint statement about AI and social justice, by local celebrity Chris Olah (previously of Hacklab.TO, now with Anthropic), and the Pope. Here's Chris's statement:

And here's a short and long English summary of the Pope's statement (it was the Vatican who put the latter on Google Drive; sorry):

To be clear, I'm not trying push Roman Catholic theology. I'm just excited that such a prominent leader outside the tech community is taking this issue so seriously and doing such a thorough analysis of the social problems we need to overcome. And I'm thrilled to hear the same message from Anthropic, frankly. This might be helpful in spreading this message to others, including Canadian politicians who might have the power to make positive changes for Canadians.
