If the person is okay with a chromebook-like experience, this gives them that plus++ -really worth evaluating their expectations of a "laptop". A Debian or Ubuntu-LTS install might out-last the hardware it's self if it's already old. No need to worry about major version upgrades at that point anyway. Narrow the scope if possible. -J
