DDR5's on-die ECC is not a replacement for traditional system-level ECC,
but rather a separate feature.
On-die ECC (ODECC) is built into DDR5 memory chips but is internal to the
DRAM module itself, correcting single-bit errors within the memory cells to
improve manufacturing yields and chip reliability. It does not provide
protection for data as it travels between the memory module and the CPU.
For that, you need system-level ECC (i.e., all components - CPU, the
motherboard, and RAM modules - must explicitly support ECC functionality).
