[kwlug-disc] ncurses file selection tool

I'm looking for a tool that displays a list, or lists, of files using
ncurses style graphics, which lets the user select files graphically
and do things with them.

Think GUI file manager, where you can Ctrl-click the files you want,
but closer to the command line.

Does any such tool exist?

For example, suppose you wanted to create a list of files from a set of
obscurely named JPGs, but only pictures where your dog was included, run
them through a bunch of imagemagick transforms to reduce their size,
then tar them up for emailing. All without leaving the terminal.
What tool would you use?

If anyone is familiar with mutt's email interface, something similar to
its tagging and filtering and search features, but with files.

Thanks!
- Chris
