I could use some more information.  Which distribution are you running
and are you running 32 bit or 64 bit?  Which application are you starting?

Can you start it from a terminal and tell me if there are any error messages
or if it just hangs or if it returns the commnd promopt?

Can you show me the output of top (or htop since everyone seems to love it
around here)?

So, do any applications work like Firefox or LibreOffice?
