[kwlug-disc] msmtp email to gmail not landing - ideas?

Ok, so it is authenticated SMTP (via the vps01 at kwlug.org email account you
may have created) - no worries there.

Reverse DNS is generally a check to make sure if a mail servers says "Hi,
I'm mail.joesgarage.com" (and the listening server sees this person coming
from 123.123.123.123. The listening/receiving mail server, then says, hmm
ok 123.123.123.123 resolves to dsl123123234-gulag.shadyisp.ru and
mail.joesgarage.com resolves to 234.234.234.234, so you are fraudulent and
I'm not going to talk to you. Even if the forward lookup works and
mail.joesgarage.com resolves to 123.123.123.123, the fact that reverse DNS
doesn't match who you say you are is enough for many mailservers to
sideline you.

Still, authenticating through a legitimate mail server (I checked mxtoolbox
for kwlug and didn't see any issues, what did you mean by 'not entirely
happy'?) should be enough to put you in a mailserver's good graces,
assuming your relay host doesn't have reputation issues (which can be a
pain on a shared mail host if the password policy is poorly enforced and/or
anti-bruteforce measures aren't in place, since I see dozens of
probes/minute in my logs trying to discover credentials that can be used
for spamming.)
