Interesting. Thank you.

However, happened to apply kde backports one day [xorg/lts-trusty]
(ostensibly driven by hinted at kate 'improvements' / plugins / etc),
then went through excruciating pain to get where I already was
pre-reboot. Probably stemming from nouveau-era X migration pains -
ultimately solved by adding +xinerama to xserverrc in /etc/X11/xinit.
But it took far too long to get there / figure that out - the desktop,
thunderbird, etc., down for the duration.

That experience has got me thinking that I'd better get on to the next
GUI versions sooner rather than later, as things move along / bugs get
fixed - which won't be / will be left behind if I don't bite the bullet
and migrate sooner, at my own pace, rather than suddenly.

And i386 support having gone the way of the dodo. 'Your browser is no
longer supported' gets tiresome after a while. Rendering my KDE Pentium
4's 'useless'.

As a result of this thread reviewed wikipedia's entries on KDE,
framework, plasma, etc. Seems konqueror development is alive again,
which surprised me.
