Happy July! We are halfway through Pandemic Year #2, and since Monday
isn't a holiday KWLUG will be continuing its "unusual hobby" series.
My unusual hobby has been to be dragged kicking and screaming into new
technologies. During the pandemic I decided to switch from GNU Screen
to Tmux, and I will be sharing my story. For those unfamiliar: a
terminal multiplexer lets you cram lots of terminal windows into a
single place, so that you do not have to manage the scourge of tabs or
-- worse yet! -- multiple terminal windows overlapped all over your
display. GNU Screen is a venerable multiplexer, and Tmux is the
rambunctious challenger. Why would a grumpy old person want to
switch? How did he (I) do it? Find out on Monday.

Do you like trivia? Do you want to learn a bunch of
impressive/ridiculous tricks you can use to be more impressive in
Linux? Then the second half of our meeting is for you. We have
organized (?) a Trivia Night where some of us will pose riddles and
the rest of us will answer them. Even if you are not a trivia whiz
there lots to learn. We also have space for additional questions, so
if you have some Linux-y or FLOSS-y trivia to stump us, bring it
along.

Are you a Linux newbie? Do you know any Linux newbies who would
benefit from a gentle introduction to the ecosystem? The Kitchener
Public Library is running a four week Introduction to Linux series on
Thursday evenings, starting July 15. You will learn how to install
a distro on a USB key, how to navigate the commandline, and more. See
details here:

(And as always, if you want to find out more tech events happening in
the area, check out the calendar at https://watcamp.com and/or
sign up for newsletters/RSS feeds at https://feeds.off-topic.kwlug.org)

We have one great presentation lined up for August, but are looking
for another one, as well as presentations for September and beyond. If
you have something to present, or know somebody who might have
something for us, please get in touch. It appears that our meetings
will continue to be online for at least another few months, so people
from far away can present as well.

Speaking of which, our meeting will be held online:

The virtual doors will open around 7pm.
