Resending this as I think it got eaten due to the attachment:

+1 for TrueNAS SCALE. It's great as it's Debian based instead of
FreeBSD, and supports Docker natively. I believe it runs containers
using K3s/Rancher, and there are a ton of Helm charts available with
applications you can add using a catalog - see https://truecharts.org/

@Andrew - I just built a TrueNAS SCALE server for a friend using an
old FX-8350 processor, 24GB RAM, and a few 4TB hard drives. You can
go with reasonably sized old hardware, and scale up to a ridiculous
level.

My current TrueNAS SCALE system is a Dell PowerEdge R730XD.

Unfortunately Proxmox does not support Docker natively, but instead
supports LXC/LXD for some reason. Their recommendation for running
containers is to run them inside a Docker Qemu VM as per:
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Linux_Container I'm not super familiar
with XCP-NG but a quick search indicates similar limitations.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you need to run one off containers, you can do it right in TrueNAS
SCALE under Apps > Launch Docker Image; but it may take some
configuration, or building a Helm chart to deploy automatically.
Alternatively you can set up a decently sized VM and run Podman on
that, and run your containers inside the VM.

Hopefully others have some other suggestions.

Cheers,
Jason
