It’s been proven safe by any reasonable measure. Khalid’s post which quotes the referenced 2012 paper (DOI 10.1136/bmj.e1147) puts it quite well:
"Age specific incidence rates of glioma remained generally constant in 1992-2008 (−0.02% change per year ...), a period coinciding with a substantial increase in mobile phone use from close to 0% to almost 100% of the US population. If phone use was associated with glioma risk, we expected glioma incidence rates to be higher than those observed, even with a latency period of 10 years and low relative risks.”
Non-ionizing radiation is demonstrably safe. New research is always ongoing, but the body of evidence supporting the safety of the types of electromagnetic waves we’re talking about is enormous and any study suggesting otherwise must have *very* compelling evidence. The skepticism shown when it is suggested otherwise is pretty sensible, IMO. It’s similar to someone suggesting that the laws of thermodynamics are invalid.
