I did a quick addition of D7 (439k) and D8/D9/D10 (380k) using the Nov 5th
data.

If we use number of sites as the sole metric, then Drupal peaked in 2016,
and
started to see decline afterwards. That is because of D8's complexity was
surely
a barrier for the lower tier of users (personal sites, small companies,
non-profits,
hobby clubs, ...).

Again, this is all due to D8 going "enterprise", shutting out a large
portion of the
above tier.

Backdrop CMS picks up where D7 left off, and adds file based configuration.
All
the Drupal knowledge still applies ...
