[kwlug-disc] cell phone plans

It's that time of the decade when I sit down and decide that I'm paying
waaaay too much for mine and Wifeski's cellphone plans.

So I humbly beseech the experts...

What are you guys using for cell phones plans? What's the coverage like?
Do you still have money left for food after you pay your monthly phone bill?

Our situation is that Wifeski uses some data and texting, but only a wee
bit of voice calls, whereas I only use call forwarding on my phone (to
forward my personal calls to my work phone). My phone literally sits on
the charging dock 24/7, and has been there for a few years now. Once a
year I take it out and laugh at the scam texts I got over the year, then I
put it back on the docking station...

We are currently with Virgin Mobile. We got Wifeski's phone on the 2-year
contract which has long since run out. I'm paying $106.00 plus taxes for
what seems to be a fairly basic plan:

For Wifeski:
500 Anytime minutes (she uses much less than that for daytime calls)
Voicemail 3
Unlimited evenings & wknd from 5PM
Unlimited Incoming Text
plus your usual call waiting/call display jazz...
Also included is 3GB of data each month for free when we took the contract
(I doubt she uses half of that)

My plan is very basic: BYOP 45 100MB for $45/mon, I only use it for call
forwarding to the work phone. (that $45 is part of the grand total $106..
the $106 was a hell of a lot less when we started on this plan, as you can
imagine...)

What do you guys suggest? Obviously we could scale back to a smaller plan
for Wifeski as she isn't a big user of voice or data, so that's an
option.. I really only care that the reception is good out in the country
(as we're more likely to be in the Back 40 than the city), and that it's
not Bell (some of you have heard of my hatred for Bell..)

Thanks for any suggestions!!
