Hmm, well, if you have 16.04 on a live stick, that would be an easy check.
Alternatively, you are welcome to grab one of them 6300 off me to have a
go. Gratis.

Alas, I cannot make it to tonite's meet, but am in my Waterloo office(near
UW) on Tues/Thurs for a couple of hours and you can get it then, or wait
till the Dec meet and I bring it to you.

2 night ago I was mucking around with Mint 19(based on Ubu 18.04) and had
zero issues with an N-6205-equipped X201.  I have not tried an N-6200 with
Ubu 18.
