[kwlug-disc] Matrix team collaboration

You guys may have noticed the "call to arms" post on Reddit1 and
HackerNews2 where users can start supporting the development of the
federated Matrix3 chat/team collaboration system. If you haven't kicked the
tires, it's a fast developing platform that stands to possibly match the
feature set of Slack and other networks, in an open, decentralized system.

Interestingly, it bridges transparently with many IRC networks and Slack
rooms, so you may already be chatting with people on Matrix without knowing
it (in fact, in a few cases, IRC users may be talking with Slack users over
Matrix without either knowing it). Many more bridges are being worked on,
including one that federates directly with XMPP. The "flagship" client is
Riot (formerly Vector), and you can, for example, join the #kwlug IRC
channel (Freenode) by opening the following in a web browser:
https://riot.im/app/#/room/#freenode_#kwlug:matrix.org

Even if you don't use all the features of Matrix, Riot already works well
as a web-based IRC client with built in bouncer (for those networks that
are bridged).
