Where do people go for shared web hosting (as opposed to VPSes) these
days? Are there good reliable cheap options? What kind of prices are
we looking at?

Transfer would be maybe 10GB/month. Requirements would be LAMP stack. 

If there are companies you are using and are happy with then please
recommend them. 

I'm, um, asking for a friend.
