Any chance just booting a Kubuntu live CD will get you through the day?

[Perhaps even a persistent Live CD install? i.e. Perhaps 4GB disk space 
instead of entire install, running off HD for speed instead of CD? USB 
stick even, so you can come back another day if you have to?]
