If you feel the drive is failing you are probably best off following
the instructions on the wiki: 

ddrescue --no-split /dev/sdc2 /data/ddrescue-20141015.img
/data/ddrescue-20141015.log

ddrescue --direct --max-retries=3 /dev/sdc2
/data/ddrescue-20141015.img /data/ddrescue-20141015.log
