Take it to a dealer, or have your mechanic do so.

The industry apparently plays funny with the independents, manufacturers
putting capabilities into their own equipment and not communicating the
details to the 'independent standards body'. (For inclusion within the
generic equipment / software available to the independents. Such as from
NAPA.)

This drives the independents bonkers - but they have a resolution
mechanism when details are discovered. Pursuing it they are able to
require the manufacturers to fess up. AFAIK manufacturers may not put
'stuff' into their own equipment and not communicate it - Independents
must be able to do everything a dealer can. Apparently it's the law. (IANAL)

[Been here, my mechanic has done this. This is all an automotive
equivalent to 'open standards', and perhaps even 'open source'.]

So ... if you discover your dealer can figure it out, your independent
will want to know so he can pursue a resolution.

You'd be helping everyone out - your pursuit could solve the problem and
ease the headache of countless others, when the fiddly bit trickles
down. (e.g. Bit 5 of byte 42 gets documented as to what it impacts.)

'course, if the dealer can't solve it either ...
