For what it is worth, Linode has introduced a $10 a month plan, which has
1GB of RAM. The storage is on SSD, so it is faster than spinning platters.

For other plans, they doubled the RAM and offered SSD for free. I was able
to half my hosting costs for the similar features by taking the upgrade
then resizing my VPS.

Yes, they are US based, but your traffic probably traverses the US anyway
and it is recorded there ...
