I haven't had a one-on-one chat with a Google Chat user in the last
year unless they were using a third-party XMPP client like Pidgin.
Seem Google's WebUI doesn't connect to external sites any more...

And today I learned that the non-federated Facebook XMPP chat may be
going away: http://sn.theru.org/index.php/notice/298122 (I've asked
for verification, but haven't heard back yet).
