No can do.

The laptop does not have VT support (greyed out in the BIOS), and hence it
resorts to qemu and things are painfully slow. Installing a default Ubuntu
server 32bit took 3 to 4 hours.

The same takes only 30 minutes or so on a server that has VT support and
hence KVM.

Not to mention the slow copying of 100 GB for the snapshot.

I'd rather brave the 14.04.1 upgrade and not go through the pain of the
above ...
