[kwlug-disc] Any experience with cloudatcost.com VPS?

Although I agree with Bob if it is to be that sort of thing, it could
also be an information transfer session. 'The cloud' is too intangible
as a concept, and apparently a moving target, so simply addressing "What
is the cloud?" would also be useful.

Buyer's guide, considerations and criteria, compare and contrast, would
all fit. When to use what, when is it appropriate to move to the 'big
boys', what and where are the players, and so on.

Even within this list in the last few months, right-sizing and
right-vendoring for your particular use case seems to have many
possibilities.

And, I suspect for most, cloud candidate functionality is greater than
one would intuitively expect. e.g. Does it have to be roll your own bare
linux box, or ...

Easy example - there is a lot of reluctance to rolling one's own mail
server. (For lots of good reasons.) But if sufficiently motivated, one
might move that basement server to the cloud - if only for redundancy /
uptime. Coming the other way, what if one wanted to roll their own mail
server in the cloud - presumably some hosters make that easier than others.

... then you get into PIMs, CMS's, and so on. And now we're talking
applications on those clouds, and the line between cloud and
applications servers gets thinner and thinner ...
