DVI shouldn't be an issue for you. DVI and HDMI are actually the same protocol running over different connectors. You can convert from one to the other with a very inexpensive ($2-5) adapter. There are no electronics in the adapter, it's much the same as the old DB9-to-DB25 adapters or null-modem adapters, just a connector change.

The only thing you need to worry about is that some older monitors with DVI inputs did not have HDCP (DRM) capability, so some equipment refused to display on them. Since you're using an rpi this should not be an issue.
