Intermediate Linux Admin for it's office in Cambridge.  Please send your

SUMMARY

As a key member of the IT team, the incumbent’s primary responsibilities  
are to provide support to the users in the Cambridge Ontario Head office  
along with maintaining and upgrading the datacenters in Cambridge and  
Waterloo. The position will also provide backup support to the users and 
data centers in our American office. Some travel will be required to the 
various company locations.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES



Provide first line support for users in Cambridge and backup support for  
users in American offices.


Install, upgrade and maintain all hardware in the Cambridge location  
including Linux and Windows servers, wireless access points, PC’s, and  
printers.


Troubleshoot network and server issues


Monitor system performance and resolve performance issues.


Maintain network and server security.

Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on plant workstations/printers.

Provide first line support for the phone system.


Work with IT Team members in all locations to fix problems, find solutions  
and ensure excellence in what we deliver


Provide training to users


Provide basic desktop orientation to new users as well as e-mail training.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES



The opportunity exists to expand the position’s responsibility based upon  
the incumbent’s knowledge of end user tools. (e.g. Excel, Oracle)


Contribute to other committees or initiatives as needed.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT



Strong inter-personal and communication skills


Strong knowledge of Linux (Apache, Samba, IPSEC, IPTables)


Strong knowledge of various Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Redhat, CentOS)


Experience with virtualization – VMWare, Virtual Box


Experience Managing SANS – Equallogic, OpenSolaris, PogoLinux, etc


Experience with OpenSolaris or Solaris – ISCI, ZFS


Strong knowledge of Windows administration (XP, Server 2003, Exchange 2003, 
AD)


Strong knowledge of communication protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, 
DNS)


Experience supporting mobile computing devices desirable (i.e. Blackberries)


Desktop support including Windows XP, Windows 7 and Ubuntu Desktop


Routing, Firewall and VLAN experience


Scripting Experience – Bash and Perl


Wireless
