In the PC right now, there is one DIMM module: 512 MB DDR (Samsung)
w/2 x 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets

The motherboard is ASUS A7V8X-LA.
HP: "Support up to maximum 2 GB memory (PC manufacturer's maximum memory
may differ)
Supports unbuffered PC2700/2100 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory"

Per Wikipedia.
256 MB: DDR PC2100, CAS latency = 2.5, unbuffered, non-ECC, 2.5 volts,
32Meg × 64
512 MB: DDR PC2100, CAS latency = 2.5, unbuffered, non-ECC, 2.5 volts,
64Meg × 64
Support for a 1 GB DDR module is not mentioned on Wikipedia.

Until I hit the wall with the 512 mb DIMM I am in no hurry to look for
more RAM.
Per the Google: Compatible DIMM modules can be had for $15 to $25.

Speaking of no hurry: I may take the advice offered, wait a week and and
bring the whole machine to the Natty Release party, find a corner and do
the install there.
And take advantage of the assistance that will be in the room to the time.
