As far as I can tell you can take two approaches to this: you can keep
your main share on the OpenFiler and do some backups via snapshotting,
or you can just use OpenFiler to do backups. 

In either case you will want to set up one or more shares that can be
mounted on your computers. What OSes are you trying to support?

I don't have particular books or courses to recommend. I can answer
some questions off-list if you want, or you can ask on-list. 

It might help to narrow down what parts of "everything else" you want
to tackle first.
