New drive time...

In theory, the drive might still have enough spare sectors, and you can 
try to 'repair' the drive with a low level format (drive utility from 
the drive manufacturer, or just dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/bad-drive from a 
Linux boot cd)

But if ever a drive threw up 39 bad sectors all of a sudden,I wouldn't 
hesitate to pitch it.
