[kwlug-disc] One last desperate atempt - Recovering a microSD

I had this issue with a friends SD. First thing I did was DD and image off.
It would die partwa through so I used dd seek option to start where it left
off. I ended up patching together a partial image.

I could mount it though so I copied off all the files that would from the dd
image (mount -o loop has an offset option to skip past the boot sector).

I saw a presentation for forensic tools at linux fest northwest. The
software was TSK (the slueth kit). It was very low level.

Subject: [kwlug-disc] One last desperate atempt - Recovering a microSD

My son BlackBerry's MicroSD gave him an error and the BB asked "do you want
me to repair it", he said yes, but still dead.

I've been trying it to recover the data he had there (pictures and videos)
but it cannot be mounted. The /var/log/messages syslog and kern.log
Show this message
[12526.295535] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Add. Sense: CIRC unrecovered error
[12526.301019] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK
[12526.301029] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Sense Key : Medium Error [current]

dd does not even see /dev/sdc
photorec recognizes /dev/sdc but assigns a weird geometry.

Is there another way to recover data from this microSD or is it physically
