I think the problem occurred for a number of reasons, I'm using Gmail and it
linked into my Gmail account and sent a number of emails as though they
came from me directly.

I have a friend who is a Scientist and has a research project on going in
Mexico and she likely has acquaintances (probably students) who use the
service. I got a couple of notifications from this person to check out the
site
and so out of courtesy I decided I would. When I got to the part - second
or
third dialog box going in, it asked me to send an email to friends which I
tried to opt out of... but the dialog box, which appeared to be rendered
in java, didn't appear correctly (it was a box and not scrollable, nor could
I deselect everyone, only about 10 addresses listed in the box). I tried to
go
around it - which resulted in an email going out to everyone in my address
book. It did not notify me that it was doing so, nor did I get to see or
edit
the message sent. My only notification was that I immediately got a number
of automatic replies back.

I was using Safari on an iPad. I don't know if you were using Firefox on
Ubuntu,
Safari on a Mac or Internet Explorer on Windows whether your results would
be different.
