I know a guy who is now based in a sailboat of Florida who telecommutes.

He uses cell phone tethering, using one of the new USB sticks.

This will not work when he roams away from the US coastline. Or rather, it
may work, but would be prohibitively expensive.

When I am up north in a cottage resort, I rely on the resort's satellite
link.
They use xplore Net (http://www.xplornet.com/).

If anything reminds me of dialup days, that is it! The latency gets to you
quickly.

One of their services does not require a working telephone line it seems

I don't think will work from a moving platform though due to alignment of
the dish, and I am pretty sure that the signal would not work as far south
as South America.
