Update:

I am looking closely at Front Accounting

Build using MySQL, and PHP, and runs on many platforms (yes, that means
Windows too).

Provides for multiple companies, one is provided by default for
training/demo.

So far it is promising: General Ledger, Bank Accounts, Invoicing,
Purchasing, ...etc.

No payroll but that is no show stopper in our case.
