The Slate sounds interesting. Only available in the U.S. <https://slate.auto>

The question I ask when buying a car is whether the telematics can be disabled. This seems likely to be the case for Slate, although it also seems that Slate ownership will not be viable in Canada until they strike it rich and expand to other countries.
