I tried out using gitlab pages for my site (the very definition of
static, since I never update it). It seemed to work fairly well.

My big gripe was that it didn't support IPv6, with an open ticket for
*years*. I believe that is resolved now, but it bothered me that it was
a non-priority.

I ended up switching to Cloudflare's implementation. They don't provide
git infrastructure, so you point it at the same github/gitlab repo, but
Cloudflare does the magic instead.

I'm also using cloudflare to proxy my self-hosted stuff (and terminate
SSL)

I hate having a dependency on cloudflare (*especially* them proxying my
self-host stuff), but frankly they're much more capable at blocking DoS,
AI scrapers, and suspicious traffic than I am.
