[kwlug-disc] Zorin vs Mint

Currently, I run Linux Mint 22.2 XFCE Edition on my main desktop PC, 2
laptops, and a couple of mini-pcs for home theatre.
I started using Mint a very long time ago, and I just stuck with it, as it
has the standard apt package system, the UI with XFCE is pretty clean, and
for the most part, the OS doesn't get in my way.
I game using Steam and Proton, using AMD GPU drivers, and the kernel is
pretty up to date. I have details on my PC build here:
https://www.linuxtek.ca/2024/04/08/after-12-years-new-desktop-workstation/
When I had an Nvidia GPU, I had to go into the driver settings to install
the latest versions occasionally, but that wasn't a huge deal.
I did test out Fedora when I first built the PC, but I really had issues
with GNOME and Wayland, and eventually switched back to Mint after I borked
my install.
I do have one mini-pc I've been using NixOS on, but it hasn't really been
beneficial, and I'll probably standardize on Mint and build some config
scripts to keep everything maintained.
I would probably switch to LMDE as I'd like to be independent of Ubuntu as
well... I use the occasional AppImage and Flatpak but I try to get
everything done through apt if possible.
Cheers,
Jason
