I can't speak for Wordpress.

But for Drupal, I abandoned all captcha solutions.

The one that works for me is the 'antibot' modules. It uses Javascript, and
will filter all automated bots.

It will not stop an actual human though, but on my web sites, these are
not frequent and are not an issue so far.
