[kwlug-disc] DNS Black Hole server

Hi,

I've been looking for a project to use as an excuse to learn Python.

I decided to recreate the service once offered by:

dig +short my.ip @outsideip.net

which is sadly defunct.

So, there's now a DNS black hole prototype up at xmpp.kwvoip.ca
(199.212.143.213), along with a small list of trackers / ad servers.

If anyone has a hosts file with more that they'd like to contribute; it
would be appreciated.

The server will respond with NXDOMAIN (doesn't exist) for the trackers,
etc. or with your *WAN-side* IP if the domain requested is "my.ip".

No recursion available, so if you want to test it with "dig",
"nslookup", or as your router's primary DNS server, make sure you have a
secondary server too.

Any feedback would be most welcome!

Either via this email list, or in our spiffy IM conference room:

> xmpp:conference at conference.xmpp.kwvoip.ca?join

You can get an account at that server if you don't already have an XMPP
/ Jabber account.

Thanks!

rb
