- which all makes argument for not buying phones with non-removable batteries in the first place. I get that after the fact it's too late.

Thank you for the link - it reinforces my experience leading me to make the comments I did. Especially in this day and age where the web makes available walk thrus that not too many years ago, if they even existed, were inaccessible. Some years ago I came across such in Dell / technical service manuals - since then I've learned to at least do a google before giving up.

Most of the link is no harder than the typical laptop memory / disk / keyboard / wifi/msata replacement process, or putting up OTA. (Surprising how useful guitar picks are / how frequently they appear in such.)

I expected soldering to likely be problematic - but hoped it wouldn't be necessary in your case. (=EPICFAIL ?) Soldering, particularly surface mounts / chips seems to be an art form one gains with experience - if one is willing to gain that experience despite the likelihood of bricking things along the way. Battery contacts, I had hoped, would be less likely to be intimidatingly small.

(*) It did occur to me later ... even if soldiering were necessary and not your thing, a quick visit to kwartzlab on a night would probably find you someone not uncomfortable with it, and the equipment to hand. Especially if you had things disassembled per such instructions beforehand. (Hint: If you have to do this once, you'll probably have to do it again - take steps to reduce the need for soldering the next time. e.g. this time you could solder a wire to a small piece of metal instead of to the battery, then tape it to the battery. Then no need for soldiering at all next time. Or something.)

- even the heat gun may be a normal thing for kwartzlabbers, for all I know. Perhaps worth shooting a note to one?

Disassembling beforehand may well reduce your charges when you take it to a shop, too. Include a printout of your link when you go - saves them time too.
