As one who has contributed to the member's blogs, I do not think that 
that the process was particularly onerous or difficult for me to do so.
I do not know what, if any, resources are required on the back-end to 
maintain the member's blogs.

BTW: My first contribution to the member's blogs was made in 2011 
following a suggestion by unsolicited to do so.
I collected some tips and advice from the list on setting up LAMP and 
put the these into a blog post.
An update to this blog entry was made in 2014.
