There can never be one Linux. The needs are different.

Examples:

- You like RPM but hate DEB (or vice versa)?
- Desktop (and within that KDE, Gnome, lightweights) vs Server vs
Embedded (Android, routers)

Even distros without modern package management (dependency) exist
until today (Slackware), and have a following ...

And remember, freedom means the right to fork (e.g. Mint vs Ubuntu) if
things don't go the way you like.

The adoption of systemd will cause yet another wave of systemd-less distros.
