There is not enough interest or momentum for a continually moving target
like tax laws to be purely Linux, since it requires constant update by
experts in the field.

Yes, this seems to be  the way to go.

Simple Tax on the other hand is a completely free service. You can donate
at the end what you feel like, or nothing at all.

If you want a big name tax processer, without having to install anything
nor bother with Windows, then there is always Intuit Turbo Tax Online
