Thanks for chiming in.  Cedric told me about a place and I took the 
laptop there and they were able to confirm my diagnosis (albeit unable 
to fix it due to parts being unavailable.)  They also did not charge 
me, firstly because I had already done the diagnosis so they scrapped 
their minimum fee and then because they couldn't get the part.
