I agree that 64bit makes a difference, and for me, the current laptop
works great on Kubuntu 9.10.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz

My questions were mainly for a friend who is in the market and the
Core i* is now swamping the flyers.  The price difference is not worth
it for a regular user like him (email, web, chat, ...etc.)
